Alex Outhred may have been born in Texas, but it would take moving to both American
coasts before he settled into a life of Texas Hold’em. The one-time model
with the Ford Agency found a love for poker in his New York City junior high
school where he battled against his classmates for milk money. Graduation from
junior high led him into informal games in high school and college. He was a
math whiz that majored in psychology and philosophy at the University of Michigan.
Courses in game theory and statistics further fueled his love for poker. Still,
he was a model and not a pro poker player. Finally, Alex moved to Los Angeles
and there he found the backroom games inhabited by Hollywood actors and musicians.
It wouldn’t be long before Alex found
a way to make his passion for poker into a profession. He signed on as an associate
producer the World Poker Tour and had the benefit of working behind the scenes
and seeing everything that happened at every important final table. It was his
job to scrutinize players’ every card, critical decision, and glance across
the table. As such, Alex has been dubbed “The Insider” and has served
as an instructor at the WPT BOOT CAMP.
Alex
found his game getting even better after working with World Poker Tour announcers
Mike Sexton and Vincent Van Patten. Interacting day in and day out with the
poker gurus opened his eyes to how psychology and math meld together to create
a perfect technique that produces winning results. Alex has since begun applying
what he knows at Southern California poker tournaments, where he finishes in
the money over 50 percent of the time. His greatest achievement to date is making
the final table of a World Poker Tour event. When he’s not playing poker,
Alex spends his time training some of Hollywood's celebrities and managing tournaments
featuring many elite Los Angeles celebrities, poker players, and athletes.
